Graham Potter On Thin West Ham Ice After Points Target; 2 Managers Lined Up

Graham Potter is on seriously thin ice as West Ham United manager after another disaster result over the weekend.

The Irons boss could not prevent his side losing once again in the Premier League, this time in a poor home defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Jean-Philippe Mateta gave the visitors the lead in the first-half of the action at the London Stadium before captain Jarred Bowen once again came up big to equalise.

It did not take long, though, for Palace to find the net again with Tyrick Mitchell bagging the winner for the Eagles and it left manager Potter in further trouble following their early season form.

The Hammers are in danger at the bottom of the division with just three points from their opening five matches. And even so early on in the campaign, Potter faces the fans’ wrath.

Owner David Sullivan attended the match with Potter’s future in doubt and neither the result nor the perfomance would have changed anyone’s mind within the stadium.

According to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol, West Ham had given the former Chelsea and Brighton boss a points target of four or five points from three games before the next international break to aim for or risk the sack.

And the Palace match – in front of their home support – did not provide much of a promise of improvement.

Now, again according to Solhekol, the club are considering their options should they wish to part company with the Englishman and have seemingly identified two possible candidates as replacement options.

Axed Nuno Espirito Santo is one gaffer they could turn to after his City Ground exit left Nottingham Forest fans emotional.

The Portuguese guided his old club to European football before an apparent fallout with president Evangelos Marinakis ultimately led to his departure with Ange Postecoglou being named as his successor.

Another possible interim West Ham leader could be former player and manager Slaven Bilic who has rescued the Irons before.

The 57-year-old Croatian has been out of work since he left Al-Fateh in 2024 but his last job in England was with trigger-happy Watford the year before.

He knows West Ham as a club and could be brought in to steady the ship.

The club’s fan advisory group recently issued a vote of no confidence in the board and they held protests before their side’s loss to Oliver Glasner’s troops last weekend.

There are also plans afoot to stage a boycott of next month’s televised home game against Brentford.
