World Cup Ambition For Bruno

After his mind blowing displays this season, all Leicester fans will agree with me, that Bruno Berner deserves a chance to play at this summer’s World Cup for his home nation of Switzerland. The left-back has stated that he is not giving up hope, as he is vying for a lucrative spot in Switzerland’s squad. Berner has said “Im ready but there is not much time left so it’ll be difficult.”

Since returning to the Leicester side from an injury set-back, Berner has slotted right back into the ‘City’ fold. Fellow left-back Ryan McGivern was having a torrid time in that position for Leicester, as most Leicester fans started to slate his performances, and thankfully enough Berner is now fit again and has kept McGivern out of the side ever since the Newcastle match at the back end of January.

Berner has recently been shortlisted for the Leicester Player of the Year award, along with Chris Weale and Andy King. I for one thinks Berner deserves that award much more than the other two, even though Weale has been a consistent performer this season, Bruno Berner’s outstanding all-round displays for the ‘Foxes’ have turned him into a fans favourite at the club and as on match days you can often here the Leicester fans shouting “Bruno Bruno Bruno”, a chant which has taken the Leicester City faithful by heart.

However can Bruno Berner claim a spot in Switzerland’s World Cup squad, recently the Swiss national coach named his squad for an upcoming friendly against Uruguay. For the left-back he was left out of Hitzfeld’s squad. Bruno Berner faces a stern competition from the likes of former Tottenham player, Reto Ziegler and Frankfurt defender Christoph Spycher for the Switzerland left-back spot.

Does Bruno deserve to be a part of the Swiss national side for the 2010 World Cup?
