Marc Guehi

Liverpool are set to push on in their pursuit of Marc Guehi after Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish admitted the captain could be sold before the transfer window closes.

Liverpool Transfer News: Marc Guehi Latest

The England international, 25, is entering the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park and has admirers at Anfield, where new boss Arne Slot is light on senior centre-back options.

Joe Gomez is sidelined with an Achilles problem, while Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate are the only fit senior central defenders.

The Premier League champions also sold Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen for £35m last month, increasing the need for reinforcements.

Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch have been discussed as emergency cover in defence, but Guehi — who has made 156 Premier League appearances since joining from Chelsea in 2021 — is viewed as a long-term solution.

Are Crystal Palace Selling Marc Guehi?

Speaking after Palace’s Community Shield win over Liverpool on Sunday, Parish conceded that a departure this summer is possible if the right bid comes in, reiterating that they don’t want to lose him for free.

“Yes, of course, for players of that calibre to leave on a free, it is a problem for a football club,” Parish said. “There is no doubt about it, unfortunately. Joachim [Andersen] went [last summer to Fulham], and we couldn’t afford to lose both of them.

“We then had another bid in January, but that was a different situation. We’ll just have to see what happens. It needs a new contract or a conclusion of some kind.”

Liverpool, Newcastle and Chelsea have all been linked with the centre-back, though Palace’s initial £50m price tag has so far proved a stumbling block.

Parish’s latest comments suggest that figure could soften before the 1 September deadline.

Another player they may be forced to sell is Eberechi Eze, who has drawn strong interest from Arsenal.

Manager Oliver Glasner has been vocal about the need for reinforcements after only two summer signings, and Parish has insisted he will back the Austrian within the club’s financial constraints.

Meanwhile, Palace lost their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport over UEFA’s decision to demote them from the Europa League to the Europa Conference League.
