Yoane Wissa Brentford Decision Made Amid Newcastle United Transfer Interest

Eddie Howe newcastle manchester United

Yoane Wissa has been left out of Brentford’s squad for their Premier League opener amid transfer speculation.

The Bees attacker, 28, has interest from Newcastle United this window with Eddie Howe looking to add the player to his squad as they continue to wait on the Alexander Isak saga ending.

The Magpies are closing in on Jacob Ramsey but they also want Wissa as part of their business.

Wissa has Premier League experience and in his 149 appearances for Brentford he has scored 49 times with 13 assists.

Last season under former boss Thomas Frank in particular, Wissa hit 20 strikes in all competitions with five assists in that time. And his partnership with Bryan Mbuemo helped the club to a top 10 finish.

Mbuemo has since moved on to join Manchester United and Wissa could be the next man out the door at the Gtech Community Stadium if the price is right.

New boss Keith Andrews has this afternoon confirmed Wissa is perhaps not in the right frame of mind to be involved for his side against Nottingham Forest on matchday one.

And the rookie Irish manager – in his first job as a head coach in his own right – has decided to make the call and leave Wissa on the sidelines to help him clear his mind.

What Bees manager Keith Andrews said about Wissa’s future

“I have made a decision that he is not [available]. It has been a very disrupted pre-season and the interest in Yoane is very clear,” Andrews said.

“As head coach, I want Yoane to be in the building and be a part of the first team and the squad. But I am very understanding of his situation.

“I have a very good relationship with him and that will persist. But we have to focus on the players who are ready.”

Brentford are desperate not to have to sell Wissa who has become a key member of the squad in recent years. They are reluctant to do any deal considering they have already lost Mbuemo and don’t fancy losing their other talisman.

Andrews revealed as much as he continued to maintain that he and the club hope the player remains with his club beyond the end of the window at the beginning of September.

Brentford do not want to sell Yoane Wissa

“I would like Wissa to be part of the first-team squad,” Andrews added.

“Certainly, as a club, we want him to stay.”

Brentford will certainly have to do more business themselves in the transfer window with no strikers yet joining to replace Mbuemo.

Attacking midfielder Antoni Milambo has joined while winger Romelle Donovan signed from Birmingham City.

Ex-Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher was also snapped up.
