Bournemouth Target Ethan Nwaneri Loan Amid Antoine Semenyo Exit

Ethan Nwaneri signs new Arsenal contract

Bournemouth are exploring a loan move for Arsenal teenager Ethan Nwaneri as they search for a replacement for Antoine Semenyo.

With Semenyo poised to join Manchester City, Bournemouth are assessing short-term attacking options and see Nwaneri as a potential fit.

Nwaneri is a high-upside replacement who could certainly benefit from regular Premier League minutes.

The issue, for now, is timing.

Ethan Nwaneri Loan: Why Bournemouth Are Interested

Nwaneri is one of the most highly rated young attackers in English football, but he’s been on the periphery at Arsenal this season.

He’s made 11 appearances across all competitions but only three starts – two in the Carabao Cup and one in a Champions League group-stage game.

In the Premier League, he has featured just six times, all from the bench, and has not featured in the competition since Arsenal’s 4–1 win over Tottenham in November.

That lack of minutes opens up an opportunity for Bournemouth, particularly in a January window expected to be busier than usual.

A loan deal would offer the Cherries immediate attacking depth with Semenyo leaving, while also giving Nwaneri more exposure at senior level.

Will Arsenal Let Nwaneri Go?

Arsenal aren’t considering a sale at this moment. The club are high on Nwaneri’s long-term value and have no intention of letting him leave permanently.

A loan, however, is viewed internally as a feasible option, provided it guarantees regular football and the right developmental environment.

Mikel Arteta has consistently spoken highly of the 18-year-old, and last season’s breakout only reinforced Arsenal’s belief.

Nwaneri logged over 1,300 minutes in all competitions during the previous campaign, scoring nine goals and adding two assists when injuries opened the door.

That door has closed this season.

The arrivals of Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke have crowded Arsenal’s attacking rotation, pushing Nwaneri further down the depth chart and limiting him to just 446 minutes so far.

Why Nwaneri Prefers to Stay at Arsenal – For Now

Despite Bournemouth’s interest, those close to Nwaneri believe a January loan is unlikely.

The player is understood to be keen on remaining part of Arsenal’s title challenge, believing that training daily within a high-pressure, elite environment offers its own form of development – something we saw with Phil Foden in his younger years.

There is also a sense that patience now could pay off later, particularly if Arsenal go deep in multiple competitions.

Nwaneri then plans to reassess his situation in the summer.

If a move does materialise then, the preference would be a step abroad rather than a domestic loan.

Borussia Dortmund have long admired the player and were interested before he signed a new long-term contract last summer.

For now, all parties appear content to wait, but it’s definitely one to watch.
