Ben Doak is all set to put pen to paper on a £25million switch from Liverpool to Bournemouth.
Tricky winger Doak has an agreement in place with the Cherries to sign a long-term deal at the Vitality Stadium after both clubs agreed a fee for the player.
Doak, 19, was withdrawn from the Reds’ squad last weekend to, coincidentally, face Bournemouth in their Premier League opener on matchday one. That was in order for the player and his representatives to put the finishing touches on the money-spinning move.
Bournemouth are ready to announce their newest recruit, who spent last season on loan with Michael Carrick’s Middlesbrough.
Liverpool insert Ben Doak buyback clause in Bournemouth transfer
However it is now being reported that the Scotland international could still amazingly have a future at Anfield should his move to join Andoni Iraola’s outfit become a smash success.
According to various reports, English Premier League champions Liverpool have inserted a buyback clause into the deal which could theoretically see the player return in future for £50m.
That would be good business for the Cherries while it also gives Arne Slot the opportunity to bring back a more experienced and professional playmaker who by then will have had his time to shine elsewhere.
It is believed FC Porto, West Ham and Leeds United all held interest in Doak before he chose Bournemouth.
Meanwhile Celtic will be holding out for a significant payout following the future fee clause they inserted into the deal back in 2022 to let him go down south.
How much Celtic will earn from £25m Ben Doak to Cherries deal
It was reported in Scotland back when he left that Celts had failed to push any sort of sell-on into the deal after he left for Merseyside only for cross-border compensation.
But now the Scottish Sun are claiming that the Scottish Premiership giants DID indeed organise future business and will now benefit from their clever long-term planning.
The Hoops earned a decent chunk from Bayer Leverkusen selling Jeremie Frimpong to the Reds but now they are to see seven figures enter their coffers for Doak leaving the club.
Bournemouth will look to splash out £20m up front on the deal with a further £5m in add-ons and success based bonuses.
Ben Doak Middlesbrough stats
Doak spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough where he played 24 times in the EFL Championship under the aforementioned Manchester United legend Carrick who was a big fan of the wide man.
During his time at the Riverside, the kid found the net three times and provided seven assists in all competitions.
Boro were believed earlier in the year to be interested in revisiting another deal for Doak which would have been another loan.
But sources revealed to FootballBlog this week that there would only ever be a permanent exit waiting for him.
Doak suffered an injury for Middlesbrough during his stint there which required surgery and prevented him from featuring after January.
