Oliver Glasner Targets £14million Wolves Striker For Crystal Palace Move

Crystal Palace Oliver Glasner

Crystal Palace are eyeing up a new striker to add strength in depth to their forward line this window.

Manager Oliver Glasner only really has Jean-Philippe Mateta as a recognised number nine available following injury to Eddie Nketiah and that has forced the boss’ hand.

A number of targets have been drawn up by Palace’s recruitment staff for Glasner to cast an eye over and there is reportedly one leading the way in terms of desired candidates.

After Palace lost their Europa League appeal, they still have Conference League football to play and that will take a strong squad to compete with potentially as many as 17 games to be added to the fixtures calendar.

Crystal Palace consider Hwang Hee-Chan loan deal

That is, of course, should the Premier League outfit have a strong campaign and make it to the final stage.

But Glasner is reportedly looking to land Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Hwang Hee-chan from their league rivals as he looks to deepen his roster of talent.

The South Korean international – who has 71 caps for his country – is wanted on loan by Crystal Palace as they consider freshening things up while also keeping an eye on the long-term and their options open.

However it is still a deal that is up in the air as it remains to be seen, according to Birmingham World, whether or not his club will sanction a loan switch and will not push to sell on a permanent deal.

Hwang arrived in 2022 from RB Leipzig for £14million and suggestions are that his club would prefer to recoup most if not all of that cash they spent to bring him in.

Hwang’s Wolves statistics

That could also be another reason they do not wish to greenlight a loan without an obligation to purchase at the end of the stint.

Hwang was somewhat out of sorts last year as he managed only two goals and one assist from 25 outings in all competitions.

He has played 120 times for Wolves across the three years and stuck the ball in the net 24 times. He has also chipped in with eight assists in that period.

Back in 2023/24 Hwang had his most prolific campaign for Wolves where he hit 12 goals and laid on three assists for his teammates and that had clubs sniffing around even at that time.

Other Crystal Palace transfer targets

The player was seemingly told he could leave Molyneux with his next adventure still uncertain and Championship side Birmingham City were rumoured to be keen.

He did not fancy a drop down in competition and the Blues signed Celtic hero Kyogo for £10m instead.

Meanwhile, Bilal El Khannouss is still on Palace’s radar as a possible new signing in the summer window.

The Moroccan has been identified thanks to his form for Leicester City.

The creative playmaker could be seen as a replacement for Tottenham target Eberechi Eze.
