Crystal Palace may have found their Jean-Philippe Mateta replacement in the form of Rennes teenager Mohamed Kader Meite.

This week, it emerged that star striker Jean-Philippe Mateta wants to leave Crystal Palace.

The 28-year-old Frenchman has been vital to the Eagles since arriving in 2022.

But with Marc Guehi and Oliver Glasner’s exits confirmed, Mateta looks like the next ready to depart Selhurst Park.

It’s beginning to look like a mass exodus at Palace, with numerous top playing and coaching staff on their way out.

Aston Villa are keen on Mateta, who has also been linked to Juventus.

As a result, Palace are desperate to find a replacement for their main man.

And they may just have found him in the form of 18-year-old Rennes striker Mohamed Kader Meite.

Crystal Palace Identify Jean-Philippe Mateta Replacement

Losing top scorer Mateta will be a bitter pill to swallow for Palace.

But with just over a year left on his contract, the Frenchman has made it clear he wishes to leave.

It is therefore in everyone’s best interests if Palace can find a suitable buyer and recoup the maximum possible transfer fee.

Cashing in before his value drops makes sense, allowing the Eagles to reinvest.

And the first priority will of course be to find a replacement forward to fill the void left by Mateta.

Despite his age, Palace feel Meite could be that man.

The youngster has already played 28 times in Ligue 1 over the past two seasons, scoring five goals.

A graduate of the Rennes academy, Meite is a French under-21 international.

Standing at almost 6ft 4in, he is an imposing and physically gifted young man, who fits the mould of a Mateta-like striker.

Meite has attracted significant interest, including a £35 million offer from Saudi side Al-Hilal.

But the teenager turned down that move, believing his development will be better elsewhere.

Palace are now the front-runners for his signature, though they will face competition from Chelsea, Newcastle and others.

Meite Could Be A Long-Term Solution For Palace

Obviously, Palace do not want to lose Jean-Philippe Mateta.

But with the forward expressing his desire to leave, they have little choice.

His current contract situation means Palace risk losing him for free if they refuse to sell him now.

And in Meite, they could land an exciting long-term successor.

The youngster has already been lauded for his exceptional hold-up play, movement and finishing.

With quick feet for a player of his size, Meite is technically gifted and an great all-round striker.

And at just 18, his potential for development makes him a superb signing for any top club.

Brinign him in as a direct replacement for Mateta would be risky, given his lack of experience.

But the possible pay-off for Palace could be well worth the gamble.
