Dutch World Cup Training Squad – No van Nistelrooy

Former Manchester United and Real Madrid front man Ruud van Nistelrooy is the big name missing from the Netherland’s training squad, the players will meet with coach Bert van Marwijk in two sessions next week, ahead of an announcement of the provisional Holland World Cup squad.

Thirty-three year old van Nistelrooy currently plays for Hamburg in Germany and had retired from international football after Euro 2008, but since then had a change of heart and made himself available for Dutch international selection. Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder and Mark van Bommel will not attend the training camps as they will be with their side’s Inter Milan and Bayern Munich preparing for the UEFA Champions League final.

Two new call-ups for Holland include Ajax’s Vurnon Anita and Jeremain Lens from AZ Alkmaar, the full Netherlands training squad is:

Goalkeepers: Sander Boschker (FC Twente), Maarten Stekelenburg (Ajax), Piet Velthuizen (Vitesse), Michel Vorm (FC Utrecht)

Defenders: Khalid Boulahrouz (Stuttgart), Joris Mathijsen (Hamburg), Andre Ooijer (PSV Eindhoven), Giovanni van Bronckhorst (Feyenoord), Gregory van der Wiel (Ajax), Ron Vlaar (Feyenoord)

Midfielders: Ibrahim Afellay (PSV Eindhoven), Vurnon Anita (Ajax), Otman Bakkal (PSV Eindhoven), Edson Braafheid (Celtic), Wout Brama (FC Twente), Demy de Zeeuw (Ajax), Orlando Engelaar (PSV Eindhoven), John Heitinga (Everton), Nigel de Jong (Manchester City), Stijn Schaars (AZ Alkmaar), David Mendes da Silva (AZ Alkmaar)
