Halmosi confirmed as target

Peter Halmosi is the latest name linked with a move to Bramall Lane after Kevin Blackwell confirmed that the Plymouth Argyle midfielder is on his list of possible transfer targets.

The 28-year-old Hungarian had recently been linked with newly-promoted Hull City, who were reportedly put off by Argyle’s £3m asking price – Tigers’ manager Phil Brown offered £1.8m. Now, former Plymouth goalkeeper and coach Blackwell is the latest to cast an admiring glance in Halmosi’s direction after confirming his interest to the club’s official website, sufc.co.uk.

“He (Halmosi) is a good player and, as such, I am always interested in good players.

“In that regard, then, he would be in a list of good players I would be interested in.”

Blackwell’s comments are far from a solid declaration of interest but, in a summer transfer window that has largely been dominated by talk of players leaving Bramall Lane, it is the first sign of positive intent by United to add to their squad and make a push for promotion to the Premier League.

Meanwhile, reports over the weekend have suggested that Fulham’s Lee Cook is another name on Blackwell’s summer shopping list. The midfielder spent last season on loan in The Championship with Charlton Athletic, but Roy Hodgson’s £2.5m valuation of Cook could prove a stumbling block in any potential deal.
