Howell moves on

Rushden left-back Dean Howell has decided to move on to Blue Square Premier champions Aldershot Town, leaving on a free transfer. The much-travelled player had an excellent first season at Nene Park, becoming a fans favourite and picking up 3rd place in the clubs player of the year award.

Howell, who previously played for Notts County, Crewe, Rochdale, Colchester, Spalding, Southport, Morecambe, Halifax (twice), Weymouth, and Grays, made 46 appearances and scored one goal for Rushden – a late penalty at Torquay. Aldershot manager Gary Waddock told BBC Southern Counties: ‘He’s very strong going forward and can track back. He’s looking forward to the challenge, and has a point to prove. He’s had a taste of the Football League, he’s come out, and wants to go back again.’
