‘Lucky’ to have been here

After leaving Sheffield United for Huddersfield Town, Chris Lucketti has expressed his gratitude to The Blades for helping him realise his career ambition of playing in the Premier League.

The 36-year-old defender was allowed to join The Terriers earlier this week after the arrivals of Greg Halford and Sun Jihai, who can both fill in Lucketti’s centre-half position. After arriving from Preston North End two years ago, initially on loan, Lucketti starred in the last game of United’s promotion winning season and his experience was vital in the subsequent Premier League campaign.

“United helped me fulfil my biggest ambition, which was to play in the top flight,” Lucketti said. “It was fantastic to do that, and definitely the highlight of my career.”

“I had a lovely time there (at Bramall Lane) at a fantastic club with a great set of lads. I got to know some proper people at United who I will be staying friends with for a long time.

Lucketti: Grateful to United for his Premier League adventure.

And the fans were something else. They were always fair and encouraging to me, which made them very special to play for.”

The move allows Lucketti to rejoin one of his former clubs, and also to link up with a former manager that is no stranger to Sheffield United: “Huddersfield is a club I know well, it is only twenty minutes from home and in Stan Ternent they have a manager who I served as captain at Bury – we are comfortable with each other.”
