It was 1st vs 2nd in Group 1 of the Asian Qualifiers although Australia were the clear favorates after beating Qatar in both games in the previous round of qualifying.
Neither team could get on the front foot early due to the match being delayed by terrible weather by half an hour.
When the match finally began Australia dominated Tim Cahill scoring after a well set up play to give the Aussie’s a lead after 9 minutes. In the 17th minute Cahill was fouled in the box giving Emerton a chance to put the Aussie’s 2-0 up he converted.
Qatar had a few chances but could not convert Australia punished them scoring in the 59th once again from the boot of Emerton in a nice sweeping play and again from the king of height Josh Kennendy in the 76th with a nice header.
