Tommy Smith has learnt that his knee injury suffered at Charlton on Saturday was not as bad as first thought.
Scans revealed no long-lasting damage and the Golden Boy has only to recover from bruising and swelling.
The injury had occurred after a horrific challenge by Kelly Youga.
The news means Smith could be in contention for a place in the side this weekend. He is however, doubtful for tomorrow night’s clash with Nottingham Forest.
Brendan Rodgers however, is just thankful there was no long-lasting damage for one of his star players.
He said: “I was very, very disappointed by the tackle.
“It was poor and I am just thankful that there is no long-lasting structural damage.
“Tommy is a doubt for tomorrow night, but hopefully he should be back with us for the weekend.”
