What Monchi Aston Villa Exit Means For Manager Unai Emery

Unai Emery’s tenure as Aston Villa has never really been questioned until now.

The Spanish head coach has been a terrific boss for the Villans since he took over the reins back in 2022 and there has been plenty of relative success.

Emery has guided Villa into Europe including the Champions League with a seventh place finish, a fourth spot and last season’s sixth to add to his collection.

Emery has been a top boss at Villa Park and that is why this season’s start has been a confusing one for punters to watch as well as his squad to partake in.

The club currently sit 18th in the division without a win from their opening five fixtures and that has thrown up some questions regarding the 53-year-old’s future.

How Unai Emery has succeeded at Aston Villa

Those doubts about what might come next for Emery were added to when President of Football Operations, Monchi, made the decision to leave Villa after a short two year stint at the club.

Monchi and Emery worked extremely closely together and have been a good partnership when it comes to issues and decisions made behind the scenes in recruitment.

But after news broke of Monchi’s imminent exit, it left Emery’s future up in the air to be debated as Roberto Olabe gets set to reportedly take over his role.

The former Arsenal and Real Madrid candidate spent time at Real Sociedad where he had success with the likes of bringing in Alexander Isak, Mikel Merino, Martin Odegaard, and Martin Zubimendi.

With so much turnaround, Villa fans could be forgiven for worrying about their gaffer, but it appears that stress is unfounded.

According to Football Insider reporter Peter O’Rourke, Villa have NO plans to sack Emery nor allow him to leave despite Monchi’s call.

The club sit third bottom in the Premier League table and have only managed three draws from their first five. Of course, it is not an insurmountable tally to claw back.

One win could potentially move them up to 13th and then potentially build momentum, but there are other sides who have struggled to hit the ground running so far.

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are on six points while Brighton, Brentford and last season’s surprise Euro package, Nottingham Forest, are close by all on five.

Graham Potter is under fire at West Ham and could be axed if results do not improve.
