West Ham United

West Ham United v West Bromwich Albion – Preview

West Ham are in good form and a great league position at the moment. With seventh position being fought over by the likes of Man City and Wigan the Hammers need to keep the wins coming. However, the last two wins have not been easy: a well-earned but nail-biting game against Man City and a hard fought victory against Wigan which produced a lovely flowing goal and then the referee joined in on the fun but ended up ruining the game, a win nevertheless though. Those wins were important and Fulham losing on Wednesday night also eases the pressure on the London club. However, West Brom come into this game on the back of four losses and they look like one of the most obvious choices to go down this season.  This will not make the game any easier for the Hammers though as the Baggies have been said to play some of the best football in the league but with no end product. Isn’t that the same as Arsenal just worse and with English players taken into consideration?

An all to common sight for West Brom fans!

TEAM NEWS: WEST HAM

West Ham have three important players out for this game, excluding long term absenties. Valon Behrami has been told that he will not be playing for another 6 months with a cruciate ligament injury in his left knee. Jack Collison has today been told that he will be out for about six weeks because of a dislocated knee that he suffered against Wigan. Also sidelined for Monday’s game is West Ham’s prolific striker Carlton Cole. Having scored in last weeks game against Wigan Carlton Cole would have been looking to get another but his controversial sending off means that he cannot take part against West Brom. This means that young forward Savio could start alongside Di Michele or on either wing with Mark Noble playing as a wideman with Radoslav Kovac starting alongside Parker. With Boa Morte training again he could be included in the travelling squad but a start is unlikely for him. Gianfanco Zola could also look to his youngsters like Freddie Sears and maybe even Junior Stanislas to fill in the gaps.

TEAM NEWS: WEST BROM

With another loss approaching fast should West Brom even field a side against the Mighty Hammers, I would say they shouldn’t but others would say they should so I suppose I should talk about their “premiership quality team!” Roman Bednar is their leading top scorer with 6 goals in the premier league this season. James Morrison has an opportunity to get his 50th league start for West Brom but Tony Mowbray has recently said that he does no think that his team are at the standard that they need to be to stay up this season.

MY TEAM:

Robert Green

Lucas Neill                       James Tomkins                Matthew Upson                  Herita Ilunga

Mark Noble                      Radoslav Kovac                Scott Parker                          Savio

                                      David Di Michele              Freddie Sears

Savio could be handed his firsy start by Gianfranco Zola

MY RESULT:

I think that West Ham will produce a good display against the Baggies considering the injury and suspension problems that we have at the moment and I think a comfortable win could be on the cards here as long as there is someone to score the goals. I think West Brom will put up a good fight but two first half goals from David Di Michele and Mark Noble will somewhat dent what morale they had coming into the game. The second half will see goals to be scored by Roman Bednar and then Savio.

A comfortable 3-1 win for the Hammers.
