Leeds United Plot Shock Transfer Move For Manchester United Star

Leeds vs Newcastle tips

Leeds United are plotting a shock move for Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.

The midfielder has been sitting behind club captain Bruno Fernandes in the pecking order as manager Ruben Amorim continues to pick the Portuguese in that position.

Fernandes arguably fits better in a slightly tweaked formation but his boss seems to trust the 30-year-old in that spot and has persisted at the expense of Mainoo who now has interest from Elland Road and manager Daniel Farke.

Amorim recently explained to the youngster, 20, that he would have to compete with his experienced teammate in order to be given a crack at first-team football on a more regular basis for the Red Devils.

The head coach said recently after his side’s 1-1 draw with Fulham, during which Bruno missed a penalty: “He’s fighting for the position now with Bruno.

“And I change two midfielders. I let Mason Mount there because we want to score a goal and when I changed I felt the team need to return to one holding midfielder near Bruno.

“So Mainoo just needs to fight for the position with Bruno, as [it] should be at Manchester United.

“[Sometimes] he’s going to play with Bruno, but at the moment he’s fighting in training with Bruno for the position.”

The transfer window still has a few days to go until it closes and the latest reports coming out of Old Trafford is that Mainoo would consider an exit if a suitable offer came across the table. And United could replace him with Adam Wharton.

The England international has started only 15 games under Amorim which suggests the boss is yet to be convinced but he is contracted at the Theatre of Dreams until 2027.

How Leeds’ Mainoo transfer wish could still come true

There is also an option of an additional year for the player to extend further but that depends on a number of different elements including Mainoo’s happiness with his minutes as well as Amorim’s contentment with how his player has developed.

But with Leeds interested in a possible switch – a loan deal – United could be willing to do business should their midfielder grow unsettled with a couple of days remaining to do work.

Leeds have been credited with interest by MOT Leeds News as they seemingly crave an extra body in the middle of the pitch.

Their club captain, Ethan Ampadu, picked up a knock in their opening day win over Everton and they missed him vs Arsenal as they were routed 5-0.

The Whites have already bolstered their engine room with the signing of Hoffenheim’s Anton Stach and Sean Longstaff from Newcastle United.
