He became the most expensive signing in British football history on deadline day, but will Alexander Isak make his Liverpool debut at Burnley on Sunday?
Isak arrived at Anfield after a summer-long transfer saga that eventually ended with Liverpool paying Newcastle a record-breaking £125 million transfer fee.
The striker had made it clear that he wanted to leave Newcastle once he became aware of Liverpool’s interest, resulting in a defiant stance that saw him take no part in his former club’s pre-season preparations.
As a result, Isak is understood to be a little short of full fitness, although he made a strong impression during his first training session with his new teammates this week.
Alexander Isak dazzles fans in Liverpool training
Isak signed for Liverpool on September 1, but then immediately jetted off for international duty with Sweden.
He was an unused substitute when Sweden drew 2-2 with Slovenia last Friday, before making a 20-minute cameo on Monday in a 2-0 loss to Kosovo.
Isak then returned to Merseyside and took part in his first Liverpool training session on Wednesday.
Liverpool shared footage from the session on the club’s official social media channels and fans appeared to like what they saw.
A 10-minute YouTube video started with Isak walking through the door at the club’s AXA Training Centre. It then showed him greeting his new teammates and taking part in a gym session.
But the headline event of the video was the final section, which showed him in action on the practice pitch.
Isak was seen scoring multiple goals in a small-sided game. One of the goals came after his sharp footwork left a Reds youth team player on the floor.
Will Alexander Isak make his Liverpool debut at Burnley?
It is widely expected that Isak will play some part in Sunday’s Premier League game at Turf Moor, although it would be a surprise to see him start after his lack of recent game time.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher recently answered a definite “no” when asked if he expected to see Isak in the starting XI against Burnley.
However, after watching the video of his first training Liverpool session, many fans are convinced he is ready.
“Isak better play on Sunday,” demanded one Reds supporter on X (formerly Twitter) alongside a snippet of the video. “He’s so ready. Just look at his finishing in training.”
A similar message from another fan, who also shared some footage to back up their point, added: “Isak’s ready for Burnley!”
Meanwhile, a third fan tweeted: “Isak hasn’t even played one game this season and is hardly match fit and yet he’s still cooking everyone in training.”
Burnley vs Liverpool
Whether Isak starts or not, Liverpool will be expected to get three points at Burnley on Sunday. In our Burnley vs Liverpool betting tips, we are predicting an away victory by two or more goals.
The Reds — who have a 28.9% chance of ending this season as champions, according to a recent report — are the only Premier League team with maximum points after three games.
Meanwhile, Burnley have already lost against Tottenham and Manchester United, conceding three goals in each of those defeats.

Alexander Isak is likely to make his Liverpool debut at Burnley’s Turf Moor on Sunday, probably off the bench
What should Liverpool fans expect from Isak?
Even if he only makes a brief cameo at Turf Moor, Liverpool supporters will be eager to see what their record signing can bring.
Isak arrives with a proven pedigree in the Premier League, having scored 54 goals in 86 top-flight appearances for Newcastle. That strike-rate already places him among the division’s most reliable forwards, and at 25 he still has room to develop further.
Frequently described as a “true modern striker,” Isak combines his 6ft 4in frame with explosive pace, close control and composure in front of goal. He is comfortable finishing with either foot, intelligent in his movement, and capable of linking play to bring teammates into attacking moves.
