Egyptian striker Zaki netted a last minute winner

Sheffield Wednesday wrapped up their pre-season campaign with a narrow defeat to Premier League Wigan Athletic at Hillsborough.

The Latics twice took the lead through ex-England international Emile Heskey and Titus Bramble but the hosts drawed level, firstly through Jermaine Johnson and then the impressive Deon Burton.

But Steve Bruce’s men grabbed an injury time winner, through Egyptian international Amr Zaki. A sight the S6 hopefuls hope not to be familar in the new campaign.

Owls manager Brian Laws sent out a strong eleven which included a Hillsborough debut for new signing James O’Connor.

Laws tinkered with his side as he replaced Jermaine Johnson with Marcus Tudgay and brought on Akpo Sodje to partner Burton in attack.

The ex-Scunthorpe manager has admitted this week, he is still unsure of his starting eleven ahead of next week’s opener against Burnley.

Meanwhile, there were no-signs of ex-England international Francis Jeffers, American Frank Simek or club captain Steve Watson on their comebacks from injury.
