I kick off another of week of Premier League player profiles, as of today I will feature Fulham centre back Brede Hangeland. I and fellow blogger 5stars have reached our 49th profile, so please enjoy reading it…
Born in 1981 in Houston Texas, Brede Hangeland is currently a defender who is plying his trade for Fulham. However Hangeland started his senior career in Norway as he played for Viking Fk, the 28 year old spent five years at the club before transferring to top Danish side F.C Copenhagen. In a two year stint with the Danish club, Hangeland impressed a number of European Clubs including London side Fulham. In the year 2008 the Centre back switched forces as he joined Fulham in the 2008 January transfer window.
In the 2009/2010 Premier League season, Hangeland featured 32 times for his club side Fulham scoring 1 goal in the process. Meanwhile his performances in the Europa League were simply outstanding, as Fulham reached the final only to lose out to Spanish side Atletico Madrid. Brede was a key figure in the 1-1 Group stage draw against Roma, as the 28 year old scored a vital goal in that match. In the Premier League Hangeland yet again played a big part in Fulham’s top flight season, earlier in the 09/10 campaign the Norwegian international decided to sign a new deal, a deal which will run out in the year 2013. Lastly Hangeland’s only Premier League goal this season was scored at the beginning of April in a 2-1 win over Wigan.
The Fulham centre back stands 6ft 5in tall, meaning that he is one of the biggest defenders throughout the whole of the Premier League. Even though Hangeland has a tall presence and is known for his World class tackling, he has only been carded six times in his Premier League career. Also another key attribute on the defender’s behalf is his heading ability, because of his incredible strength and height, Hangeland can leap above most of the Premier League’s strongest strikers.
Even though the 28 year old was born in Houston, he is eligible to play for Scandinavian country Norway. In his younger days Brede grew up in Stavanger and started his youth career trade, as a player for home town club FK Vidar. From the year 2002 the impressive Centre back has been capped 56 times for Egil Olsen’s side, but he also has the greatest honour as he captain’s his country Norway.
