Riquelme Offered To Blackburn Rovers

Blackburn Rovers fans are a buzz, citing multiple sources that the club have been offered Argentinean midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme and that he is interested in moving to the Lancashire side, if the club want him. Initial talks between representatives of the club and the player are believed to have taken place.

Blackburn’s new owners Venkys have been on the look out for a marquee signing for the club and have already looked at David Beckham and made an offer to Ronaldinho in the January transfer window.

Fans may worry about Riquelme’s age, he is 32, but Rover’s right back Michel Salgado is 35 and still an important member of the first team, only last year club legend Tugay retired, but not until he was 39 and Manchester United are talking about an one year contract extension for midfielder Ryan Giggs, so perhaps there is life in Riquelme’s legs yet.

Having made fifty appearances for Argentina he retired from international football after a disagreement with then coach Diego Maradona, as recently as August 2010 new temporary manager Bastista offered Riquelme back his spot in the National team if he wished. Amongst his honours as a player he’s won three Copa Libertadores with Boca, captained Argentina to the FIFA U-20 World Cup and won a gold medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, as well as playing at the 2006 World Cup Finals with the national team.
