Season’s best performance against Rovers

The match against Blackburn was decribed like this by Man Utd long-serving manager Sir Alex, after his side produced some impressive football at Ewood Park and ran victors by 2-0. The line-up by the Scot against former Red Devil Paul Ince’s side was (ratings for the game):

  • GK: Edwin van der Sar = 6
  • DR: Wesley Brown = 7
  • DL: Patrice Evra = 7
  • DC: Rio Ferdinand = 7.5
  • DC: Nemanja Vidic = 7.5
  • MR: Cristiano Ronaldo = 7.5
  • ML: Ryan Giggs = 7
  • MC: Darren Fletcher = 7
  • MC: Anderson = 7
  • ST: Dimitar Berbatov = 7
  • ST: Wayne Rooney = 8.5

Out of the 3 substitutes that were included in the match, Tevez, Park and O’Shea, only the former (Tevez) managed to impress, after he hit the post and could have easily made it 3-0. Ferguson’s delight could be seen from the comments that he gave to Setanta Sports when the game finished:

“I think that’s our best performance of the season in terms of possession and confidence of the team.”

“It’s always been a difficult ground for us over the years and they’ve always made it a battle against us and we’ve lost a couple of times here in the last four or five years.”

He was full of praise for man of the match Wayne Rooney after another top-class performance from the bright Englishman. He also anticipated an interesting season for the Barclays Premier League:

“He’s a very mobile player, Wayne. He sees space well, he’s very active, he’s got a lot of energy, he uses his energy in the right way I think now. It was his best performance of the season it has to be said.”

“It’s going to be an interesting season. What we’ve got to do is make sure we have a consistency and try and take something from every game.”

Goals for Man Utd were scored by Wes Brown and Wayne Rooney, as the Red Devils registered their first consecutive win in the current Premier League season. The win indicates that Man Utd are on the rise in the table, after they went up to the 6th place after Saturday evening’s match. It is also a well-known fact that Man Utd have a game in hand, after the scheduled match against Fulham was postponed.

Paul Ince criticised the referee for allowing the Wes Brown goal to stand, after he claims that his goalkeeper Jason Brown was felled by Vidic in the build-up of the goal. However, he praised the Red Devils for their ‘awesome’ performance:

“I wouldn’t say it cost us the game but it was 0-0. If the referee can’t see it then he shouldn’t be a referee. If not then the linesman should see it – it was a diabolical decision.”

“They [United] were absolutely awesome, they are a fantastic side and champions of Europe but decisions change games.”
