Second Of The Season Away For The Mighty Gills

After being unable to secure a win five games in a row away from home, Gillingham finally got back to winning ways on the road with a narrow 1-0 victory over Macclesfield at the Moss Rose stadium.

It was a scrappy affair up in the North West, but the Gills came out on top despite being without key players Simon Royce, Leigh Mills, and Mark McCammon.

Macclesfield failed to create many chances, especially in the first half, as Gillingham looked the more dangerous of the two teams. However, the limited attacking options for the Gills meant that their best opportunities could only come from set pieces.

And it was from such set pieces that Gillingham would get the only goal of the game, and therefore secure a valuable away win.

After winning a corner in the 18th minute, John Nutter’s curling ball to the edge of the area was headed goalwards by Adam Miller. It appeared to be cleared off the line by defender Izak Reid, but cannoned off one of his fellow defenders and into the net.

It was the only goal of the game, and one that meant Gillingham’s 272 travelling fans went home happy, after being rewarded with a second away win of the season.
