Sheffield Wednesday striker, Akpo Sodje made his long anticipated return from injury last night in the Owls 4-1 victory at MK Dons.

The 27 year old, who suffered ligament damage in January, played for the first time in six months. He helped fellow strike partner Deon Burton to grab two goals as Wednesday cruised to victory against Roberto Di Matteo’s side.

Owls manager Brian Laws was delighted to see Sodje on the pitch again: “”To see Sodje back in the team is a massive boost for us, to see him work as he did last season was great.”

He also believes given the correct service Sodje can be an influential character in the Owls XI: “”From the moment he got his legs going we got going. He can be our leader of work, where everybody follows him.”

Sodje is now setting his sights on being the club’s leading goal scorer:

“I’ve got the chance to do more stuff that I have not been doing before in the months I have been injured, like different exercises and treatments.

“Now I am fully fit and hopefully I will stay fit for the rest of the season. I scored seven goals last season and my and my aim is to score more goals than that.”
