Newly named Sheffield Wednesday team captain Richard Wood believes it’s vital the Owls get off to a good start after last seasons poor start.![]()
The Owls started last season with six losses from six but Wood believes this summers pre-season form has been impressive and that should stand them in good stead.
“It’s massively important that we get a good result against Burnley and our season can start on Saturday instead of six games time,” said Wood.
He added, “We played really well against Wigan and gave them a good game. If we can do that again this Saturday against a team in our league then we can do really well.”
And, after being handed the captain’s armband by manager Brian Laws, he is very proud:
“I’m looking forward to leading the team out on the first game, it will be a proud day for me and my family.”
