Warnock on his way to Villa Park

Whilst the rest of the Blackburn squad head north to the Stadium of Light for the Saturday game against Sunderland, the news coming out tonight is that left-back and player of the season last year Stephen Warnock, is heading to Aston Villa for around £8 million.

It seems all the fee won’t come Rovers way immediately, but arrive in the form of installments and bonuses dependent on appearances and other contractual things. The money is set to go towards Salgado’s wages and hopefully a decent creative midfielder, something Blackburn have been lacking, and fans have been calling out for recently.

Gael Givet is a solid defender and looks set to take Warnock’s place at the back, meaning our back four is likely to be, when fit: Givet, Nelsen, Samba, Jacobsen. Which doesn’t sound too bad, but we have less cover now. Salgado, Khizanishvili and Olsson can come in and do a job at the back, let’s hope it is enough.

Could be another good bit of business by Sam, let’s wait and see who he brings in, for the midfield. Any suggestions?
