Jack Grealish Facing Race Against Time For World Cup Place After Latest Injury

Jack Grealish may miss this summer’s World Cup after the England international picked up a long-term injury this week.

The Everton forward, on loan from Manchester City, has potentially been ruled out for months – putting his World Cup ambitions in jeopardy.

Thirty-year-old Grealish joined the Toffees in the summer on a season-long loan, with an optional £50 million future fee.

He has so far made 22 appearances for David Moyes’ side, scoring two goals and providing six assists.

But this latest injury blow has halted any momentum he may have been trying to build.

Extend Of Jack Grealish Injury Revealed

Grealish has reportedly suffered a serious foot injury, and is due to see a specialist this week due to a suspected stress fracture.

This news may come as s surprise to some, given Grealish played the full 90 minutes in Everton’s 1-0 win against Aston Villa at the weekend.

But unlike a normal fracture, usually caused by an acute injury or sudden impact, a stress fracture builds gradually.

Repetitive actions like running or jumping can weaken the bone. This can cause tiny cracks to appear, that worsen over time.

The main treatment for a stress fracture is rest, which can take up to 12 weeks, or longer.

As a result, Grealish could be set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

England boss Thomas Tuchel names just one more squad before his World Cup selection is finalised for the summer.

Grealish is yet to feature for the Three Lions since former Chelsea boss Tuchel took charge.

And given his expected lay-off, it will be incredibly difficult for him to force his way back into contention now.

Will Jack Grealish Make England’s World Cup Squad?

Even if he were fit, Grealish would be up against it to make the World Cup squad.

England’s options out wide are plentiful, with stiff competition in his preferred left wing position.

Tuchel does value Grealish as an option, though.

In October, he praised his performances for Everton and hinted at a future recall.

“Jack knows that I see how influential he is for Everton and is on the way to being the best version of himself,” said Tuchel.

The player himself has also acknowledged the challenge he faced even before this latest injury.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Grealish said: “First of all you want to play well for your club because that’s what we do every week but obviously you want to be in the England squad.

“But I do understand it. I spoke to the manager and I understand there’s a lot of competition, especially in that left wing spot at the moment; Rashy’s [Marcus Rashford] flying, [Eberechi] Eze, Anthony Gordon – everyone’s doing so well.

“I can’t really complain, it is what it is and hopefully I can keep performing and influencing games.”
