Premiership Player Profile – David Dunn

Yesterday I and fellow blogsfc writer 5stars decided that we will bring you a new feature here on blogsfc. Every Monday and Wednesday one of us will write a player profile on any Premier League player, this Monday I will start off with on form Blackburn player David Dunn…

David Dunn is currently in his second spell with his home club Blackburn Rovers, after deciding to rejoin the Lancashire outfit in the year 2007. Dunn was a cultural figure of the Rovers squad which finished sixth in the 2002/2003 Premier League season. David Dunn scored eight goals that season as the squad was filled with talented players such as, Damien Duff, Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Brad Friedel and Blackburn legend Tugay. Also in his first spell at Ewood Park, Dunn claimed his first England cap against Portugal in the year 2002; however he hasn’t been given another chance to shine in the England set-up just yet.

David moved back to Blackburn Rovers from Birmingham in the 2007 January transfer window. His second spell with Blackburn hasn’t lived up to expectations until this season, his first full season back was the 2007/2008 campaign where he managed to claim 31 league appearances, but he only scored one goal which came against Arsenal. Paul Ince was then appointed manager for the 2008/2009 season; however even though Dunn was given the responsibility of the vice captain role niggling injury’s ruined that season for him. On the other hand this season has been a whole lot different, David Dunn has been featuring regularly for Rovers plus he has been scoring goals from his centred midfield position.

As the World Cup in South Africa soon approaches, Dunn has hit form at the right time for Blackburn Rovers. Apart from Cesc Fabregas who has scored six goals from midfield this season no other midfielder has scored more goals than David Dunn, not even Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard has matched Dunn’s tally of five goals in the Premier League. As the Premier League’s actim stats show David Dunn is currently the best Blackburn Rovers player this season, as his goals have helped the Lancashire club sustain a mediocre mid-table place. From the Wolves game in September till the Burnley game in mid October, David Dunn managed to score four goals in six games. Even though I said that Dunn has scored five goals in the Premiership this season, throughout the season so far David Dunn has bagged six goals in all competitions, as he scored in his first appearance of the season which was a Carling Cup tie against Gillingham. Dunn has also scored goals against Wolves and a late winner against Aston Villa.

David Dunn however has also netted in every single Blackburn game which has been shown on Sky Sports this season. He scored in the entertaining 6-2 loss to Arsenal, he scored in the Lancashire derby against Burnley which warranted a man of the match performance, and also only yesterday he scored against Bolton which also earned him man of the match status. David Dunn has been an instrumental part of the Rovers set up this season, if he keeps away from injuries and keeps up this good form he could well be chosen as part of the England team for South Africa 2010.
